I spent many years of my life in service to others and have recently shifted my perspective to focusing more on myself - the quality of my life, tending to my home and contemplating what I personally need and want now. My heart is my compass.
Many times in the past, people have subtly and not so subtly told me that I was too focused on serving and creating the greater good. They wanted me to rest and not work so hard. I sensed that I made others feel uncomfortable because I seemingly gave so much of myself and so generously. They may have felt conflicted because they wanted to join in but desperately needed rest and self care. Currently there is strong public opinion that helping others may be enabling bad habits and self care is the higher road.
Now that I’m retreating within, I have time to look back and evaluate my chosen path. I realize more than ever that I need not apologize for doing what I felt guided to do. During my years of service, my heart opened. I gained a greater capacity for love and compassion. I learned to be generous and I truly realized that giving is not loss, its abundance. Therefore, I no longer have a fear of money. I interacted with so many different types of people and gained emotional intelligence. I learned so much about myself during my years of service. My intuition became super sharp as I navigated the joys and perils of a conscious life. My heart is my compass.
I realize now that there are times in life when it is important to focus on service to others. It fills our hearts and helps us develop our capacity for love. We fill ourselves up through service to others. There are also times when solely tending to our own life, our practices, our inner and outer life is most important because as we love ourselves, care for ourselves, build a nourishing life, we build the capacity for joy which is so healing. Therefore, we also fill ourselves up by focusing on loving ourselves.
Mantra: This life and path are mine. I trust my inner guidance.
💕 My heart is my compass. 💕
5 Minute Visualization to Test your Guidance:
Sit quietly. Close your eyes. Breath slowly and place your attention in the area of your heart. In your mind, see yourself doing what you feel intuitively you are being guided toward. See it in as much detail as you can. Try to engage your senses into the scene that is coming to you. See yourself touching and feeling something with your hands which helps to place you directly in this experience. Now turn your attention within and notice how you feel. Does it feel right in your heart, in your bones? Do you get a sense of joy or affirmation when you imagine moving in this direction, making this change or in letting go? If you have a choice of two paths to take, see them both and place yourself at a fork in the road looking into both options. Your heart will guide you in a language that you understand. You will feel or sense in your heart, which path is right for you.
